Early Life
Sofia was born in Atlanta, Georgia in January of 2003 to traditionally older parents. She was exposed to decades of music by her parents, cousins, and older sisters as she grew to be a toddler. Sofia's first memory of music and performing comes from when she was just 4 years old. She loved listening to Jon Bon Jovi in the car with her mom. One day when visiting family in Wisconsin, where they had a stage at their lake house, she performed Living on A Prayer to about a 20-person audience. She was nervous at first but at that moment she was having the time of her short 4-year-old life belting that song on a stage. That marked the beginning of her musical journey.
At five she began piano lessons and by the time she was eight, she would sing for her piano teacher while playing Grenade by Bruno Mars on the piano. As she grew into elementary school, she sang to herself and in her room. But, once she hit 4th grade, she could audition for the chorus at her elementary school. She inevitably got in and participated for a year until she realized she liked singing solos, even though she rarely had the confidence to audition for them for chorus performances. She chose to play the cello in Middle School but decided to participate in the talent shows in 7th and 8th Grade, many teachers asked why she wasn't in the chorus. She would be asked about what she wanted to be in the future and she would say Veterinarian/Zoologist/Ecologist for her deep love of animals and the earth were and are a big part of who she is even though deep down she knew she wanted to be a Singer.
Sofia began writing lyrics and songs as an emotional outlet at 12 years old in relation to her parents' divorce and instability at home. She had a short stint in the beginning of 7th grade playing for the volleyball team at her eventual high school. But, begged her dad to put her in vocal lessons instead and she ended up enrolled at Sing Like A Star in May of 2016. Sofia also self-taught herself Ukulele and basic Guitar through this time allowing her to create music for herself. This time was also pivotal for her in her political identity and how her humanitarian views came to the forefront of her opinionated and bold (at times) personality.
She had been there ever since. She took some theater classes in High School but inevitably felt uncomfortable with how cliquey the theater kids and theater teacher were, so never auditioned for shows, though she greatly considered it for the fun and practice. Her High School experience was not too great, she had a few friends who were supportive of her, her voice, and her eventual music, but she fell into a depression and wrote hundreds of songs that will probably not see the light of day. She began Online School at the beginning of her Sophomore year in the fall of 2018. She used her free time to start dabbling in producing music all while still performing at her pseudo- High School and performing showcases through her vocal lessons. She had a true outlet through music and a culminating fervor for political statements and humanitarianism since the 8th Grade.
Sofia incorporated music into her school by taking Music Theory and AP Music Theory, sharpening her writing ability and knowledge though she has been reading music since age 5. Sofia took a dual-enrolled semester at Kennesaw State to finish off her senior year and graduated in May of 2021. This was when she modeled for her friend's make-up brand Simply Artistry, where founder Latasha Harmon and Sofia began speaking in the make-up chair and came up with the idea for Sofia to write a song for a red lipstick make-up campaign. Sofia has never been commissioned for a song, though she has been writing for 6 years at that point. She took up the offer and researched the history of red lipstick and how much of a statement it was in women's suffrage and how it impacted women of all kinds and she wrote "In Red" a Pop/RnB female empowerment anthem. She produced her song with her long-time vocal coach and released it on November 26th, 2021.
Sofia's experiences and ideas are expressed through her music. Sofia knows her purpose she knows how music and singing make her feel and how it can make others feel. She knows she wants to have a bigger purpose of helping people that extends beyond music. Sofia wants to invoke the betterment of the world and the betterment of people whether that's through her music, volunteering, charity, vocalizing the need for human rights, or positive change, Sofia wants to make a difference. Sofia has moved to Denver, Colorado for new experiences, inspiration, and people, and she hopes to break into the Denver music scene soon, but baby steps are ensuing. She thanks you for reading :).
